Size Nine Sandals

I leave ruin behind me.
Measured out in size nine sandals,
Every untold history
Is marked in the red paint under my feet

And the pavement cracks in the heat,
The weight of the history I leave.
Red footsteps, toed lines,
Red separations,
One day, reparations
Should be made by the shore

Kicking rocks on the edge of the river.
Leaving red in the dirt.
My size nine sandals;
More dangerous than I ever thought.

The destruction I have wrought,
No protest picture can resolve my
Red footsteps, cracked concrete
Marred with worry,
I should say sorry
To the shore.
